Nicole Ari Parker, an American actor, who has appeared in film and television and on stage is best known for portraying Teri Joseph, a flamboyant attorney featured in the show on Showtime called Soul Food. In the years following her marriage the actress is now known for her role as Nikki Kodjoe. Since childhood, Nikki Kodjoe was a naturally talented actor. In a Maryland contest for high school students she was awarded the prize for Best Actress. In the years following her involvement in acting and in "The Washington Ballet Company", she received an acting diploma from New York University. The family was born from Mumbai, India and raised in Nigeria until 7 years old, Contractor was a seasoned traveler who enjoyed world travels and a variety of different cultures from a young age. She was educated in an boarding school in London between the ages of 7 and 9. Then, the family relocated from London and moved to Toronto, Canada. In Toronto, Contractor excelled in academics and became a classical ballerina. In the Etobicoke School of the Arts (a public high school that specializes in arts) she studied the theatre and dance. Contractor took the decision to study acting seriously at age 16 after almost 10 years of dancing. As she finished high school, she was offered a full scholarship for tuition to University of Toronto where she pursued theatre studies with a double diploma in sociology and psychology. Contractor was cast in her first show following her first year at university. The play was well-received in the 92 plays which she was a part of. The play won her the award in 2002 for the Best Production of the Year from Canadian Critics. She was given the chance to enroll in the Stratford Conservatory. It allows only eight males as well as four female students to study classical theatre. Contractor was eager to accept. Contractor's participation in the next play-season was confirmed and she received the role in Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
